When not out gigging with his band the Red Rock Hot Club, luthier
Rich
D'Aigle spends his time handcrafting beautiful Selmer style guitars in
his Salt Lake City workshop. This traditional 14 fret D hole instrument
is an outstanding example of his work. Based on original Selmer
specifications, this guitar has a 15 3/4" body, a 670mm scale length, 1
3/4" nut. The top is spruce, the back and sides are beautifully figured
cocobolo, the neck is walnut, and the fingerboard is rosewood. The top
was heat bent using the traditional Selmer method, a time consuming and
expensive feature that is usually only found on flagship instruments
like Dupont's Vieille Reserve. Hardware includes a set of a Grover
tuners and a DR tailpiece.
This instrument
has the rich, open tonal quality that D holes are known for, yet the
long scale length gives it enough power for clear, projecting lead work.
Warm, complex, and rounded in character, this instrument is highly
versatile and can be used effectively for both lead and rhythm in numerous
styles.
This guitar is in excellent condition.
There is some pickwear and mild finish checking on the top. The frets
have a moderate amount of wear. Otherwise, it's quite clean with no
structural issues.
Most luthiers would charge
$5K or more for a handmade instrument of this quality. Here's a chance to
get a finely made instrument for far less!
