Lebreton Modele 2 Evolution
A stunning guitar in all respects. The craftsmanship is basically perfect, with the wood, binding, stain, lacquer, nut, bridge, fretwork etc. all just clean and lovely. And, unlike plenty of guitars out there, the Lebreton sounds as wonderful as it looks. Sonically it has everything I could want from it. It is very crisp and clean, dry with just enough resonance and chime to keep it interesting. Chords really accent the 'crisp and clean', with a lot of sensitivity. Some guitars seem to really bark no matter how hard you try to quiet down. The Modele 2 Evolution can be soft and sweet or as big and bold as you want it depending on your attack, and still be clear with the right amount of percussiveness all the while. Same goes for leads. If you want it to, the low end can really growl, or the higher notes really sing, with just the right amount of ever so slightly nasal Selmer sound up and down the fingerboard. Or it can be soft and sweet with a light touch. As a testament to how good it sounds, my wife was a bit skeptical about me buying a higher end guitar. Then when I played it, she admitted she understood... As a non-guitarist she could still appreciate just how stunning this guitar sounds. I'm really blown away. I'd like to put a criticism in this review to prove some objectivity, but I simply can't come up with anything. Fit, finish, playability, and tone, these is a superlative guitar.
