2011 AJL Orchestre

Many are surprised to find that some of the best Selmer Maccaferri style guitars in the world are not built in Paris, but rather in the far north of Finland by the skilled luthier Ari-Jukka Luomaranta. Made famous by the legendary Swedish guitarist Andreas Oberg, AJL guitars have found their way into the hands of Gypsy jazz guitarists worldwide. AJL is known for his meticulous attention to detail, deep knowledge of traditional building techniques, and replica hardware which is second to none.

This is AJL's Orchestre model which takes it's inspiration from the original Selmer Maccaferri design. It includes many of Maccaferri's groundbreaking innovations, including a D shaped soundhole, an internal soundbox, a fingerboard extension up to the 26th fret, and covered brass tuners. This instrument features a spruce top,  a walnut neck, an ebony fingerboard, and highly figured Brazilian rosewood back and sides. Unlike the original 12 fret, short scale Maccaferri design, this instrument was constructed with a long, 670mm scale length and a 14 fret neck which allows for high fret access and strong single note projection.

While many D hole models are overly bass heavy and dark in character, this well balanced instrument has somewhat more bass response than a similar oval hole model but still retains plenty of high end punch. Versatile yet powerful, this instrument has what it takes for anything from traditional Hot Club style playing to modern Gypsy jazz, modern jazz, and even folk music! It's never harsh, but always clear and singing in tone with full chords and snappy leads that should serve you well in just about any musical situation.

This instrument is in excellent condition, with just a few small dings and scratches and some mild fret wear.
