ALTAMIRA M01D 12 FRET
As I get older I am dealing with some arthritis in my hands, on top of being short in stature. So I was looking for a guitar with a shorter neck to keep my left hand closer to the body of the guitar. Michael suggested the ALTAMIRA M01D 12 FRET and he was right. The neck joins the body at the 12th fret instead of the 14th, and the difference is obvious as soon as you grab the neck. It definitely makes it easier for me to play. Also the 1 3/4 inch nut is important for me as I have small hands. If I had anything to wish for it would be that the neck did not flare in width so quickly towards body, as I have short fingers and it is more challenging for me to reach the upper strings on the wider part of the neck. It takes a bit of adjustment to the position of the frets in comparison to a standard length guitar. But that process is coming nicely after a few days of practice. The guitar arrived in perfect condition, though shipping is not cheap to Canada (alas). The (free!) setup was excellent on the instrument and it played well right out of the box. I asked to have the instrument setup for Argentine 0.10 strings, and that was no problem. The installation of the pickup was great, and the Altamira case was solid and a good fit. Great service from DjangoBooks. I like the feel of the guitar. I felt very solidly connected to the strings as soon as I started playing it. The sound is rich and present. The lead sound is very full (not tinny at all). Rhythm sound is good. I play rhythm focused on the top 4 strings (growling?) and I like the sound very much. Value wise I think it is a very solid guitar for the money. I’m not a pro, so they may see it differently. But it appears well built and I can’t find flaws. Certainly for my needs, it is way cheaper pathway to get a shorter neck guitar than order a custom built guitar. Gary
