Since it's introduction in the 1950s, the DeArmond 1100 Rhythm Chief floating single coil pickup has long been considered the "Holy Grail" of jazz pickups. It produces a natural, woody, acoustic tone and includes a fingerboard mounting bar. This allows installation of the pickup in the neck position of the guitar without having to alter the solid wood soundboard. It continues to be one of the most sought after archtop guitar pickups today.

Dearmond MOAS Setup
Pros: Excellent customer service all the way around
Cons: None really
Recently purchased a Dearmond RC 1100 pickup with a monkey on a stick and volume/tone control box for use on my Loar archtop. Michael from Django Books was very helpful; answered all of my crazy questions. The pickup sounds great. Just what I was looking for in an amplified jazz sound. The MOAS and control box are very good quality. Installation was very easy. One minor issue, since my guitar doesn?t have a pick guard for the floating pickup to rest against it had a tendency to shift downward toward my knee while playing. This affected the low E-string volume a bit. Tried poster tack putty under the pickup which fixed the problem but damped the acoustic volume considerably. Ended up making a little extension for the MOAS that rests against the side of the neck and solves the problem. Contacted the person that makes the MOAS and he said he may look into offering something like this in the future. Also put thicker pads under the pickup to raise it closer to the strings. With these minor modifications the whole setup sounds and works great. Would certainly recommend this setup to anyone looking to amplify an acoustic archtop. Purchasing through Django Books was a great experience.
