I just installed a Dupont Bigtone pickup on my Altamira M01 gypsy guitar, and the result exceeded my expectations! Not only does the amplified signal sound big, natural and have no propensity to feed back, the acoustic tone quality of my guitar is also improved! plus, there are no wires or devices attached to or visible on the guitar when I'm being amplified. I was also very happy with the quick delivery time and great technical support from Djangobooks.com. Here are a couple lessons learned from the experience: 1. be very careful to cut shallow string slots on the bridge, and ensure slot angle creates maximum string contact on the side of the bridge facing the fingerboard. An improperly cut slot dramatically affects the tone of the string. 2. Ensure that your bigtone is run through a preamp designed for piezo input! If you plug the guitar directly into a standard soundboard (even one with a "guitar" input), the result will be poor tone and lack of signal strength. I run the bigtone into an LR Baggs Para Acoustic DI with built in preamp, which feeds directly into the soundboard and the resulting sound quality is AWESOME. Note that I have tried several other gypsy guitar pickups and various micing techniques, and for gigging situations, nothing comes close to the bigtone, both for sound quality, and ease of setup!
