The MD50 is Maurice's standard Selmer copy which is based on the same specifications as the legendary Selmer guitars produced from 1932-1951. This instrument features Indian rosewood back and sides, a cedar top, and a walnut neck. Duponts are known for their clear, dry tone and this instrument is no exception. Each note is well defined and projects well, without any of the annoying overtone ringing or muddiness that lesser guitars suffer from. Cedar is well known among luthiers for its ability to mimic the tonal characteristics of a well aged, vintage spruce top. This is certainly the case here as this instrument posses the complexity, openness, and clarity that one normally only hears in 50 year old instruments. There's no doubt, this guitar is magic!
Maurice's precision fretwork and neck geometry allow for easy playing low action which enables one to play even the most difficult passages with little effort. For these reasons, the MD50 has long been the "go to" guitar for professional Gypsy jazz guitarists. It has the most traditional Selmer tone and the best quality workmanship and materials that one can find in this price range. For these reasons it's our best selling guitar!

Dupont MD50 Cedar Top
Great sounding and playing guitar. Quite Dry, great tone and responsive (this presumes you have the correct technique to get the sound out of the instrument). I gave 4 stars for value as there are many options in this price range that can work but the quality and sound of this guitar is what I was looking for. The Cedar top gives it a nice personality. I find the guitar versatile in both modern and more traditional Gypsy Jazz settings. Recording the guitar is well balanced, more so than any other Gypsy Jazz guitar I have recorded. Those are a Manouche Moreno, Shelly Park Montremare, a vintage Cuesnoun (great guitar), a Gitane DM250, a non Cedar Dupont MD50 (also lovely) and a Patenotte. I would also presume for some reason you needed to sell the Dupont you would have fairly good resale value with it.
