Built in Epiphone's Long Island City factory, this "Golden Era"
example posses all the qualities that made this model the top choice for
professionals of the day. Identical in size and materials to the
costlier Broadway and Deluxe models, the Triumph delivers that classic
Epiphone sound at a fraction of the price.
The 17 3/8" body features a
parallel braced spruce top and maple back and sides. The five piece neck
is constructed of maple with walnut splines and is topped with a
Brazilian rosewood fingerboard. The adjustable Brazilian rosewood bridge
is original. Hardware includes the original nickel-plated
"Epsilon-logo" tuners, Frequensator tailpiece, original tortoiseoid
pickguard and an aftermarket floating humbucker.
This
instrument posses the dry, clear, and penetrating tone that one only
hears in finely made, well aged archtops. Lacking in annoying overtones
of any kind, each note is pure with exceptionally strong fundamentals.
The tonal character is full and rounded, with just a slight bit of bite
which enhances the already prodigious projection.
This instrument is in good condition, with just some light fret wear and a cleated top crack and a cleated back crack. It has the typical rugged patina of an instrument of it's age, with many small dings and scratches but no major aesthetic issues. An easy player, this guitar is buzz free with low, 2.3mm action.
As the old saying goes, "they don't make them like they used to," and that is certainly the case here. Vintage tone, projection, and overall cool factor at a price of lower than that of inferior Asian imports: what are you waiting for??!!
