Loudbox Mini
I'm real happy with my Loudbox Mini, beginning when I carry it to a gig, because it weighs only about 20 lbs. But I'm happy with its volume and tone, plus the fact that it has plugs for my 1/4 inch guitar jack, my 3-pin microphone jack, and my 1/8 inch iPod jack. Best of all, I can use all three of those jacks at the same time and the sound is still loud and clear. Plus there is a 3-pin jack for exporting the amp's signal to an external PA, which works quite well, too. I'd always thought that amplifying an acoustic guitar realistically required a big woofer, but it turns out that the little 6 1/2 in. one in the Loudbox does the job perfectly. I was hesitant about ordering this online without actually having tried it, but it just so happened that they were selling the same thing at my local music store for about the same price as Djangobooks.com. So I tried it at the store and loved it, bought it there (sorry, Michael!) and have been using it quite happily ever since. I would recommend this to any GJ guitarist without reservation. I use mine in conjunction with a Morley foot pedal which gives me control over volume for rhythm and lead playing, and that works great, too. For me, the only way this unit could really be improved upon would be inclusion of a battery allowing it to function without AC power. Speaking as an acoustic type guitar player who resorts to amplification with great reluctance, I'd say this was probably the best money I ever spend on musical gear. If you're like me, you'll probably want to try it, but my feeling is that that won't be a problem because these little amps are going to start popping up like mushrooms where GJ music is played.
