these past few years...but now you can take home one of these gems yourself!
This is now the second guitar we've gotten from Bob. After spending a few years studying Busatos, Bob has more recently dedicated himself to accurately recreating the classic Selmer petite bouche. This guitar is a near exact copy of the wonderful Selmer #863 that we currently have in stock. Bob spent untold hours measuring Selmer #863 and used that knowledge to create this fantastic guitar!
Built in beautiful Portland, Oregon, this guitar has standard Selmer specs: 15 3/4" body and 670mm scale.
This guitar is impossibly light at 3.5lbs! Most Duponts are around 4lbs, Dell Artes around 4.5 lbs.
The top is Carpathian spruce (same Romanian spruce that Selmer used), back and sides are Rosewood. One detail Bob changed from the original Selmer #863 is the neck construction. Instead of using a very stiff, but very heavy solid rosewood neck, Bob used a three piece Busato style neck (Walnut with a Rosewood spline). There is no truss rod, but the neck is reinforced with carbon strips which will keep it eternally straight.
The sound of this guitar is pure Selmer! So many luthiers make this claim, but if you get the chance to compare a new guitar to a vintage Selmer, they rarely hold up. Generally, Dupont has been the best at recreating the traditional Selmer sound, but Bob has undoubtedly unlocked the secrets to getting that classic tone. Put side by side, Bob's #863 and the vitnage #863 sound like long lost brothers....both have a bright, singing highend, gorgeous midrange complexity, and a dry clarity that is so nice when playing in volume challenged situations. And like all of Bob's guitars, this thing is LOUD!
