Jean Barault 2009 modèle Biréli Lagrène Oval Hole Guitar ***SOLD!!!***
This beautiful guitar was built by the renowned French luthier Jean
Barault. Biréli Lagrène currently endorses Barault guitars and this
instrument is built to Biréli's specs. Jean has also built guitars for
Tchavolo Schmitt.
This guitar was used by Bireli Lagrene himself for one gig, so it has a small amount of "shop wear." There is a small amount of pick wear on the top. Barely noticable, but you get 1000 off because it's not perfect!
This guitar includes:
laminated Brazilian rosewood back and sides (the back is
absolutely gorgeous on this one! It's a light brownish hue with darker
streaks of brown, green, and yellow throughout. Never seen Brazilian
like this!)
Spruce top
670mm scale
14 fret neck
Walnut neck
Selmer body specs (15 3/4" body, 3 3/4" deep)
The sound of this instrument is among the best Selmer copies being made
today. It's no wonder Biréli chose to endorse Barault guitars as they
offer a very traditional Selmer sound but have the playability of an
ultra smooth archtop. The Barault is more rounded in the high end then
a Dupont (the other master of Selmer copies). The Barault has a thicker
midrange with a traditional Selmer like "boxiness" to it. This guitar
is very loud but not quite as loud as a Dupont VR which tends to be a
bit brighter and snappier. The Barault is a real thick sounding tone
machine but still has enough bite to make it in a campfire jam.
It is currently strung with Argentine 11 gauge strings. Action is very
low at 2.8mm...but is buzz free and sounds great at this height. As you
would expect, the guitar plays very, very easily.
Barault certainly wins the award for weight...this guitar is feather
weight at only 3.8 pounds! Hard to find anyone making guitars that
lightweight today. The lower weight allows the guitar to resonate
freely....no wonder it sounds so good!
