2004 Michael Dunn Belleville

2004 Michael Dunn Belleville

Here is a wonderful long scale oval hole guitar by the illustrious Vancouver, B.C. builder Michael Dunn. This very experienced and capable luthier has a career that stretches back to the late 60s. As far as anyone knows, Michael was the first North American luthier to make Selmer inspired guitars.

While Michael's instruments are clearly based on Mario Maccaferri's original designs, they are much more than mere copies. Always unique, Michael's guitars are a breath of fresh air in the very conservative world of Selmer guitars. His willingness to experiment with materials, design, and aesthetics appeals to those looking for something different.

This beautiful Belleville, Michael's most popular model which was played by the legendary Chet Atkins, features a 670mm scale, 14 fret neck, 16" body, and a 1 3/4" nut. The top, back, and sides are koa, and the neck is mahogany. Embellishments include abalone fingerboard inlays, an extra wide ebony center strip on the back, ebony "keystone" on the rosette, ebony heel cap, and a custom nickel tailpiece with an ebony insert.

The sound of this guitar is focused and clear, with a strong midrange that adds a horn like quality to lead lines and richness to chordal playing. Generally speaking, the tone is rich, warm, and rounded in character with little of the brashness associated with more traditional Selmer type guitars. Like most of Michael Dunn's guitars, this instrument is quite loud with enough projection to see you through most acoustic performance situations.

The playability of this guitar is beyond excellent as it is totally "iced' with ultra-low 2.2mm action. It feels more like an electric guitar as it's so easy to get around on. It's a perfect instrument for those who normally struggle with the higher action that is common on most Gypsy guitars.

This instrument is in mint condition. There are no signs of use, including a total lack of fretwear, dings, and scratches. It's as clean as the come!

Michael has been retired from regular building for some time now. Here's a chance to obtain his most popular model in "like new" condition!
