Bought it for use on my Greek bouzouki. I have tried various pick-ups and they all have that bright metallic sound that I don't care for. The DYN-M-P48 is a contact mic that opens up the sound of the bouzouki so that it's transparent and dynamic much like a microphone but without the proximity effect, leakage and feedback that microphones are notorious for. Having owned numerous mandolin pickups over the years, I can honestly say, that this is the best I have ever used. True acoustic sound with no feedback issues at any level. Schertler DYN-M P48 Mandolin Pickup

Schertler DYN-M P48 Mandolin Pickup

The Schertler DYN-M P48 is Unlike Any Other Pickup on the Market

Nearly all mandolin pickups use one of two technologies: magnetic or piezo, both of which color the sound in ways that produce a sound that is unnatural, and often harsh and irritating. The Schertler DYN-M P48 is unique in that it uses electrodynamic technology that yields the most natural possible sound, producing a transparent, accurate reproduction of your instrument.

The Schertler DYN-M P48 is Easy to Use and Requires No Permanent Installation

The Schertler DYN-M P48 easily mounts to any mandolin using the supplied, reusable finish friendly putty. It takes just seconds to mount and can be easily removed and stored in your instrument case when not in use. Since no permanent installation is required, the Schertler DYN-M P48 can be used on any instrument you own, removing the need to outfit each instrument with its own pickup. Also, the movable nature of this pickup allows you to achieve an endless variety of tonal characteristics by placing the pickup in different locations on the top back, or even inside your instrument. This microphone is additionally recommended for use with Sitar, Oud, Saz and other similar ethnic instruments

The Schertler DYN-M P48 is Designed to Produce the Warmest, Clearest Tone.

The Schertler DYN-M P48 is equipped with a balanced, XLR cable that minimizes noise and RF interference. The pickup is constructed using Class A electronics which result in the most detailed and satisfying tone possible. This pickup requires 48V phantom power. When used in conjunction with a Schertler amplifier or preamp such as the Schertler Yellow Single, Schertler's proprietary RESON control will reduce feedback and improve the tone, allowing for as much as 25% more volume before feedback.

DYN-M-P48

Bought it for use on my Greek bouzouki. I have tried various pick-ups and they all have that bright metallic sound that I don't care for. The DYN-M-P48 is a contact mic that opens up the sound of the bouzouki so that it's transparent and dynamic much like a microphone but without the proximity effect, leakage and feedback that microphones are notorious for. The DYN M has high gain (output) so careful gain settings are important to get the best sound response. High quality playback equipment will make a huge difference in the sound quality and dynamics. Pick-up placement location is important - I found the best response with the pick-up placed in line next to the bridge on the treble side. The putty that comes with the pick-up is very sticky and somewhat burdening to take off - especially when searching for a sweet spot on the sound board. I found a less sticky and very adequate alternative at the local London Drugs Store "The Poster Putty" by LePage, clean and reusable adhesive. Ordering from Michael at Djangobooks was easy and delivery to Canada took one week. Very happy with my purchase!

DYN-M P48

Pros: Quality of sound; No feedback

Cons: Pricey

Having owned numerous mandolin pickups over the years, I can honestly say, that this is the best I have ever used. True acoustic sound with no feedback issues at any level. Placement on mandolin top requires a bit of experimentation, but optimal sound is easily obtained. Moving the pickup 1 inch can make a dramatic tonal response change. The low impedence cable is NOT microphonic, so one does not have to be so careful not to touch the cable. Costly, but by far the best sound. The putty used to place the condenser mic on the instrument stands up to repeated uses, and stays put... and does not harm the finish.
