Notes: Of all the Paris builders in the Selmer/Maccaferri gypsy jazz tradition, none was more prominent than Jacques Favino, founder of a luthiery dynasty that continues to this day. Jacques retired in favor of his son Jean-Pierre in 1978, and the instruments he produced remain the most highly coveted Django style guitars of the postwar era. Which is why we were so surprised to see this remarkable rarity, an original electric guitar made by the master himself.

A fully hollow thinline design with a single Venetian cutaway, the guitar is equipped with a pair of rare original single coil Tonemaster pickups. The guitar is finished in a distinctive tobacco sunburst, and we estimate its manufacture sometime between the mid 50's and mid '60's. A fine player with a slim contemporary neck profile, the body shows no cracks of any kind, and only light normal playwear, especially compared to the typical gypsy box. We know of only one other example offered for sale in recent times, and none on this side of the Atlantic. A matchless piece of history, and a great playing axe, this guitar is surely the rarest electric instrument we've ever had the pleasure to offer.

Setup: The frets have been precision leveled, recrowned and polished; trussrod tension and neck relief adjusted; bridge height adjusted; bridge compensation set; string slots at nut and bridge inspected and recut as necessary; bridge foot contour inspected and fit to top as necessary; bridge radius inspected and recurved as necessary; bridge wheels and tuners lubricated; fingerboard and bridge oiled; body and neck cleaned and hand polished.

Setup: This instrument is strung with light gauge nickel strings (.011-.052). The guitar will accommodate lighter or heavier gauge strings, according to preference. String action is set at 5/64" to 6/64" at the 12th fret, with moderate relief. The action may be lowered or raised to your requirements with the adjustable bridge.

Case: Hardshell case.
