Has anyone else seen the Super Guitar Trio DVD? I think all of us under the age of 40 owned a copy of the Guitar Trio CD: Paco de Lucia/John McLaughlin/Al Di Meola. I just watched the DVD last night....it was highly amusing to see Bireli enter the world of the testosterone driven speed of Al Di Meola and Co. Honestly, I didn't think I'd like this DVD that much...I always thought Dimeloa was pretty cheesy....and although I think playing fast is great, when he does it just sounds silly. However, I couldn't believe how well Bireli did in this situation. Personally, I think he made Di Meola look like a chump. Everything Di Meola plays is perfectly executed...and obviously all worked out before hand. But it just isn't that musical...very cold and mechanical.

However, you could tell that Bireli was actually improvising...and playing just as fast AND was actually playing real music! He even made little mistakes once in a while...but that's what real improvisers do. But the end result was pretty amazing.

I wonder how long Bireli played with Di Meola? He probably got fired once Di Meola realized he wasn't the star anymore.

If nothing else, you'll see some classic "guitar faces" and posing by Di Meola...ha ha

I have a copy of this DVD. Unfortunately, Bireli is too low in the mix (I have problems hearing what he's playing). It isn't very well rehearsed either especially the tracks with the percussionists. But, Bireli steals the show as usual;)

what i wonder is what all the big guitarists he's played with think of him/.....

you can see on that video where bireli plays hungaria for john mclaughlin, the guy's watching him play with round envious eyes... and when they jam on All Blues, bireli just wastes him.... (with all due respect to john who's of course still way up there - just that bireli is much higher...)

what did mike stern think of bireli?

ritary told me that when george benson saw bireli play he gave him his gibson archtop.... anyone know if that's true?

speaking of prodigies, anyone checked out eddy waeldo? he plays like benson and he's 14... he's got a cd out from fremeaux... and he's been at samois for the past 2-3 yrs... he's the young kid playing all those bebop licks...

Hey guys-can you tell me what plugin to get for this? I'm trying to watch it at work, and downloaded a version of Windows Media Player, but our computer seems to be missing whatever I need.
