Back in the early 90's when I was playing classical mandolin, I often used PYRAMID. Thougn I have not used the Gypsy Jazz Guitars strings, I will concur that the strings I used for mandolin were high quality.
I just received a set of loop end 11's and have put them on my Dell'Arte Sweet Chorus (12 Fret D). Here are my first impressions:
They are a bit stiffer than the Argentine's (not as stiff as the D'Adderio's). The loops are somewhat too small for the Tail Piece of the Dell'Arte so it was a bit of work to get them on. overall, they sound good but, like the feel, a bit stiffer sounding then the Argenitne's. They seem better suited for rhythm than lead playing with my setup anyway.
I'll post an update once I've played them for a bit.
I've used Pyramid Gold flat bass strings on my Hofner basses for over 40 years. They are the best of their type, expensive but long-lasting highly polished, giving the classic Hofner bass sound. Even Sir Paul uses them.
It would be disappointing if their gypsy strings weren't up to the same standards.
After playing these for a bit, they are are quite a bit stiffer than Argies or Martin Silk & Steels (I use both). There is also little color to the sound, as Heretic out it last night, the nice overtones and undertones just aren't there. Sort of like a nickle wound string would sound on an acoustic instrument.
