Truss rod nut question

Basically mine fell out! I quartet turned the rod to bring some relief as I was getting some shimmering on the light strings at 3rd fret. Guitar plays perfectly now, but without the nut will I open the case some day and my guitar may have exploded?

Hmmm, weird. If it fell out it must have been only held on by a tiny bit of thread and probably wasn't doing anything anyway. I'd clean off the threads on the inside of the nut, put on a tiny bit of lube, and put it back on just barely finger tight to keep the rod from rattling around.
