I would appreciate a recommendation for 10 "must have" CD's

And 5 "must have " DVD's.. I have the VCR tape of Romane
as well as Bireli's Vienne.. and Ferre Bros Northwest (not my favorite)

I definately don't know nearly as much as some people here, but here are some of my favorite CDs:

    1. All three of the Django GSP sets (okay that's actually 15 cds, but they're inexpensive and nicely engineered.

    in no particular order:
    2. Tchavolo - Alors? ... Voila!
    3. Boulou & Elios Ferre - pour Django
    4. Stochelo and Romane - Elegance
    5. Angelo et. al. - Gypsy Guitars
    6. Bireli - the Gypsy Project CDs.
    7. Jo Privat - Manouche Partie
    8. Rudolphe Raffalli - Gypsy Swing Guitars
    9. Angelo and Ludovic Beier - Swing Recontre
    10. Fapy - Swing Guitars

I can't claim that this is an "indispensible" list. As I said, I don't have the depth or breadth of knowledge that others do around here. My CD collection is also not extensive in Gypsy Swing. What I can say is that of the 60 or 70 GJ CDs I own, these are the ones I find myself listening to most of the time. And listening in the sense of enjoyment, not in the sense of trying to hear licks I'd like to learn (the fact that they coincide frequently doesn't hurt however). Other favorites include Moreno's Le fils du vent, Raphael Fays' Sans domicile fixe (thanks Dennis), and any of the Reinier Voet CDs (but especially Bric a Brac).

Again, this is a personal view based on what little I know, but I really do love each and every one of the CDs I mentioned. I hope that's something like what you're looking for.

Oh, and get the newer Bireli DVD. And the life of Stephane Grappelli documentry by the BBC (I believe). Lot's of Django footage.
