i read on the message board on the samois site that the festival started on the 20th...is that not the case?

wow, chucho valdes! Have they had Cuban (or latin)
music at Samois in the past? Chucho is an amazing pianist, composer and bandleader and any chance to see him is precious, but I find it a little curious that the last act on saturday night is a Cuban sextet. -kevin

yes they have had latin acts in the past - although there is always a healthy dose of GJ in the programme, the main stage at Samois always showcases a diversity of music. When I was there in 2003, if something didn't interest me, I just walked over to the guitar makers' tents or into the town to watch some jamming. The main stage is not actually that big a part of the festival.

The festival always starts on Monday with some gigs on boats, restaurants etc. but the "real" festival opens on Thursday.

Janne Ersson Big Band is actually a Swedish Big-Band that perform in the style of drummer Buddy Rich
