Celebrating the lasting popularity, resurgence and current innovations
in Gypsy Jazz, a genre of guitar based jazz pioneered by Django
Reinhardt in the 1930's, the internationally acclaimed Robin Nolan
Trio will join local favorite Gaucho in a very special and intimate
evening of music that will swing so hard the audience may be swept off
their feet!

Robin Nolan, while being considered one of the world's leading Gypsy
Jazz guitarists in the tradition of Django Reinhardt, has also set
himself apart by creating his own unique style. From his base in
Amsterdam, he has circled the globe with performances at the Lincoln
Center, the Montreal Jazz Festival, the Toronto Jazz Festival,
DjangoFest and numerous others. A friend of George Harrison's he has
played at Friar Park many times, being George's favorite guitarist.
Joined by his brother Kevin Nolan on rhythm guitar and Gypsy Jazz
veteran Simon Planting on double bass, the Robin Nolan Trio blazes
through a mix of Django, Latin and Swing classics, peppered with
stunning and inventive original compositions.

From their humble beginnings playing Wednesdays at Amnesia for tips,
Gaucho has become one of the most sought after Gypsy Jazz combos in
the bay area. After four years of impressing the young and old alike
at all manner of functions, setting toes to tapping and hearts beating
a little faster, Gaucho still plays Amnesia every Wendesday for free
to an ever burgeoning crowd of enthusiasts of their strutting sound
that in the gypsy tradition mixes the traditional with exciting
revelations of the moment. Gaucho will open the show with a special
set and also play host to a jam session of gyspy jazz that will follow
the main performance.

REVIEWS
"The world-class Robin Nolan Trio moved their gypsy jazz into original
territory with a more contemporary flavor, with remarkable fluidity.
The complex beauty was astounding, as Robin flawlessly played through
his innovative interpretations to create a very individual sound. This
was indeed heady fare for the corner of Burbank Boulevard and
Hollywood Way!"
- Harvey Barkan, Just Jazz Guitar, May 2005
