Hi I´m planning on living in Paris, France from January to June, 2006
and one of my main interests is learning gypsy jazz firsthand.
Who should I seek? Where to go? How to prepare? Is the musical scene at Samois on all the time or just on specific dates?
Any help appreciated

Samois only happens on one weekend in June, but there are lots of places in Paris to see GJ all year round. If you are looking for lessons a good person to try would be Pierre "Kamlo" Barre.

    Thanx man.
Who is Pierre Barre? is he a gypsy? how to contact him?
Also I read somewhere that people go to Django´s grave to play on the anniversary of his death (May 15), is this true?

Hey thanks man. Checked it out, not a lot of information about him out there, but some.
Besides him, Any other teachers and/or players living in Paris?
Jazz schools? People wanting to jam?

And if you go to the link above, I think all those idiotic smiley faces in the phone numbers are supposed to be the number eight.

    Best,
    Jack.

    Hi,
you could try St Ouen district in Paris. There are bars here with excellent players of Jazz manouche. Atla is a school of guitar in Paris that could help or simply check out notices in Guitar shops Rue de Rome near St Lazare in Paris; Good luck,
    Alan.
