Happy Olympics!
There is no jam at Bar Reis this week (Wednesday the 13th) due to renovations at the bar. We hope to be back soon, but you know Nyc Contractors. Arghh. In other news- three great events for gypsy jazz, if you can get off the couch and resist the draw of international sporting competition!
Amaranouche are back in NYC!! Check them out twice this trip- once at Bar 169 (169barnyc.com) on friday August 15th at 8, and once at mehanata bulgarian bar Saturday the 16th from 7-11. I'll try to be at both gigs!
Also, Pete mannes (great bassist) is having a art exhibit in his home (with great music- provided by several NYC gypsy jazzers).

A Sea Of People
NY Times and Time Out NY published artist Brian Whiteley, opens up his studio on August 15th at 7 pm. Whiteley’s art is jumble of lines, pastels, and people. It can only be described as “Illustrative Pop Art”. The Open Studio will have numerous painting from Whiteley, a live gypsy jazz band, refreshments, and additional artists to boot.

Granados is a Spanish painter and architect whose style shows influences from her Spanish roots, architecture and pop culture.
Her work pushes the boundaries of formalism by altering the point of view from which the work is seen. She has an unmistakable style of combining architectural thought and depth perception with loose strokes and penetrating colors.

Karavani is a photographer residing in Brooklyn , NY . Her airy portraits can reveal an unexpected honesty in the subject matter.

Graham T. Slick
Graham’s work starts with a desire to create pictures out of mundane materials and processes. He challenges himself to create rigorous systems of picture making in the absence of traditional art media. This humorous tension between the clichéd notions of beauty his images suggest and the ordinary, accessible materials that he uses is a driving factor in the creation of his work.
