Hahl Gitano / bigtone

I played one last night, a friend bought it from R&F Charle for 3800 euros (!).
Very nice guitar, with maple back and sides.
The tone wasn't exactly pure Selmer, more modern with a hint of folk guitar in it. Great neck, awesome playability. Loud, not a cannon, but very good tone and personality and good cutting power.

We compared it to my Dupont MDC60 and I must say the Dupont kicked the Hahl's butt in every way, at one time there were two amplified guitars playing rhythm against the unamplified Dupont and it still sounded louder and clearer, but that MDC is special and has beaten up some VR's.

One thing that was really good about the Hahl was the Bigtone it had, seemed very low gain but sounded much more natural than the one on my Nomade, anybody knows where I can get one like that??

I believe Hahl uses the same element as Dupont. It's the bridge construction that probably makes the difference....did the Hahl have a bone saddle?

I can order a Hahl bigtone bridge for you if you'd like.

Yeah it had a bone saddle.
I might think of ordering one without the bone if possible, I was really impressed.
    Thanks!

    Enrique,

IMO, the only Gypsy guitars that stand up to Duponts are Selmers, Busatos and Favinos. All the rest are different. The Hahl that I played was similar to a Shelly Park, though a bit brighter. VERY nice neck.

    Cheers,
