You might not even need that--a lot of forum software providers offer a "mobile theme" or "mobile template" in the settings panel....if you've got that you could just try turning it on.

I use Forum Runner on my iPhone to read The Gear Page forum. I've only been using it for a few days, but it's not bad at all so far.

I read a few reviews of TouchBB Lite a free php bb app for iPhone. Sounds like it is pretty decent and the really good feature it is free! Anyone had actual experience with it? Maybe worth a try?
