Has anyone used these? They seem to be pretty cheap and I would like to get one...

From the reviews players on this site have given the GJ-5 it is probably $100 well spent.
In all things wooden instruments/luthier work I tend to side with the old adage of "you get what you pay for". :D

Don't the "single digit" Cigano's have laminated tops?

If true, you might just want to save your money for a bit and buy a GJ-10 or GJ-15...both solid tops, and great beginner models.

Spring for a solid top Cigano... And Djangobooks prices are the best around!

I've never heard of this "Eagletone" line of guitars. You never know though, they could be decent instruments. The description says they have a solid spruce top and the reviews are favorable. It's impossible to tell until you have the guitar in your hands.

One thing that raises a red flag for me is the fact that it has fancy binding and rosette. Inexpensive things that are all shiny are usually junk made to sell instead of being made to use (department store bicycles for example)

My Cigano has plastic binding and a decal for the rosette, but it sounds good and that is whats important to me.

A very shrewd observation. I think that the "decorative ploy" is just what you've described.
I really couldn't be more happy with my Cigano-10. Not only did it recieve good reviews, but those reviews have stood the test of time over the years.
The Cigano is a good, safe bet.

Check out the machineheads on the Eagletone, they look like good quality with bevelled mid sections and reducing inserts on the internal edges. These are like those found on the Dell Arte Angelo Debarre I suedto own. I have heard of Eagletone guitars nefore but never seen a gypsy one. I might be tempted to import one to see what they're like if the shipping was cheap enough
