Hi Paul, I've had my own serious health issues physically and mentally over the past few years. Sometimes I have just stopped playing for a couple if years but I've always found my way back in. May you regain your health and get back to playing as soon as you can. My thoughts go out to you.

Paul, you are still here, despite the bad stuff. And that is a good thing. At 64, my best playing days are behind me (arthritis and fingertip pain have made the pandemic loss of gigs somehow OK). Every day is a gift and every year is a victory. Do what you can, don't overdo it and keep a "glass half full" attitude. As bad as things are, it still is better than the alternative. Here's hoping that things settle down for you and that you find some enjoyment and purpose in all the days/years still to come.

Just wanted to say thanks you guys. Tough week - went into Afib and had a heart attack, though a fairly mild one, a few days back. The Graves' disease can do that. On meds to bring my pulse down and hopefully forestall another Afib emergency. Getting an echocardiogram and referred out to cardiology to assess how much damage was done and plan for going forward.
It means alot to me to get your thoughts, guys. Hope to pick up the guitar again soon, and carry on.

We played a few for ya at Bos Meadery tonight Paul. Stay positive and hopefully see you soon-ish.
Good Luck Paul! Hope you rebound - I've had my own ups and downs since turning 50 (am now 66) and have come close to the edge a few times. I've been in Afib pretty much 24/7 for the last decade and have come to live with it okay. Just make sure it doesn't speed up your heart over time and make sure your cardiologist is top notch. Mine keeps me going with good monitoring, Carvedilol, Lisinopril, Digoxin and the usual diuretics and blood thinners. I hope to have a good 10 or 20 years with the guitar that arrives Friday, despite the arthritis in my hands from 40 years of making flutes. So hang in there!
Oh and make sure you get a sleep test - sleep apnea can make everything worse in a hurry and the newmachines and masks are great!
Good god, man, I'm so sorry for what you endure. Thanks for the good advice, and the model of your perseverance - puts my "wtf?" in better perspective, thanks man. I'm on metoprolol with thinner TBD. Crazy thing is I've been trying to get off any meds I can. Mexiletene is basically an oral lidocaine, bathes my CNS 24/7 with lidocaine to numb everything. Dozen+ others, but I'll just have to accept it (acceptance is not an easy thing with me. I truly suck at it).
I have apnea. Thanks for the caution because I've been an a$$hole respecting using it consistently. I hate it, but more, I have PTSD and act out violent nightmares and, damn mask has played a role more often than not (I get what I call "nested nightmares," where I think I'm out but in fact the whole thing is just a part of a larger narrative. I've had to ask my wife "am I here?" in the morning). There's some indication it's precursor to PD, but I'm going on the belief it's not. Most immediate concern is that as I'm a trained martial artist, I'm always literally saving my life (or my son's life) using my training, and it can get pretty hairy in bed. Concerns I might hurt my wife, and we've taken measures..
So, I've not stayed on the unit. But you bring it home and I'm grateful. chef's jacket, French, guitar....simple goals back.
The newer ones are much better. I just upgraded from an old 11 year old system, mask and CPAP. Plus with the new ones you can wear glasses, in case you wake up in the middle of the night and want to see what spammer just texted you.

You guys can't know how much you've helped. 🙏❤️

Do you use a CPAP for apnea? Yeah those masks can be tricky to keep on if you flip around in your sleep.
