Im in the Eu so i can't pay 200 euro's for shipping while the pickup is 180 haha! What kind of handy work would the pickup require?
Shipping would just be about $17 to the UK for the DeArmond Rhythm Chief.
Yeah, I did wonder how he got that figure too...........

The problem is not with shipping costs but with tax and import duty which in the UK would add another 40 or so Euros. It would be a similar addition to someone in the Netherlands too.
I'm working on an F hole guitar where I want to mount a pickup in the top. I'd prefer a routed in pickup like a traditional humbucker. I don't really love the look of the Krivo pickups.
Does the Dearmond need a pickguard to mount it? Or to rest against the top?
Is there something similar to the DeArmond Rhythm King but in a humbucker or mini humbucker mount?
Or put another way, if you had to mount a pickup into the top of a Selmac-ish guitar, what would it be?
Go with the Rhythm Chief or Super Chief please, never heard one of those on Selmacs. These strings still have a still core so it shouldn't be a problem, no?
There was/is a video comparing magnetic pickups where one of them was Kent Armstrong humbucker (at least I think it was KA pickup) and I liked the sound a lot.
The string balance is never perfect, but these Rhythm Chiefs are often better balanced with Argies than some Gypsy specific pickups and if you get the 1100 model you'll have adjustable pole pieces which gives you a lot of control.
Do you have any experience with a regular humbucker mount pickup for Argentine strings? Not a top mount but a full route humbucker? (Or mini humbucker etc)?

This is the basic design:
Hey Paul, maybe try to get in touch with Rodrigo Shopis via FB? That's what he did with this model
In general, wouldn't you be able to use any pickup you like the sound of as long as it's going to be built in?
yeah. I just don't know how a lot of them will respond to Argentines and the gypsy thing...
But maybe I end up stringing it up with Monels or something.

PS found the thread
The Rhythm Chiefs work really well on Gypsy guitars, we've mounted lots of them on Gypsy guitars using either a Monkey on a Stick or putty:

@paulmcevoy75 Yes, we installed a Kent Armstrong in a Gitane many moons ago:
The problem is you have to bolt the pickup into the top. Most humbuckers are too thick to top mount with putty.
We used to have these which use a Benedetti micro humbcker:
That solved the mounting problem.
However, due to their tonal characteritcts and historical precedance, there's a strong preference for single coil pickups amog Gypsy players.
Just screw it on! https://lorissarinehartcom.files.wordpress.com/2018/07/11767656_web1_710837-gypsy-guitar-django-reinhardt.jpg
