The best jams are a bit messy in my experience - messy and exuberant and joyful. The worst are stilted plodding through stiff versions of the same old tunes.
This is an excellent video - not at all finger-wagging like a lot of these 'dos and don'ts in jams' things can be. All good tips - the only thing I would add is patience. You may not be that guy, but chances are someone will be and if you let it get to you, you'll end up being annoyed at most jams. It's not the end of the world if you don't get to take a solo or a tune is called that you don't know - breathe deep, go to the bar, wait for the next one.

Thank you.
I mean grazie...
I watched a few videos there & bought a couple educational items.
I guess that makes me a tourist!
I've come to expect and accept that most jams will be messy affairs. I don't expect that to change any time soon.
I suppose the question is are jam sessions for learning or for performing ?

Reasons 1-10 solved (for me): PLAY AT HOME until presentable in public.

Yes
Thanks for clearing that up.
Ha, prego:)
I'd say both really in my opinion
