And here's one with a few tunes. Pictures are later in life but not sure when the audio was recorded. If you check out the DePiotto's album, he has some great trumpet tunes.
It stands to reason. Django was reportedly inspired by Armstrong. Seems to follow that the music should work well with that instrument. Personally, I dig both the trumpet and the clarinet with this music.
It's probably just a lack of tradition. Not enough networking, people meeting and having a discussion to join the band. We had a trumpet player in the previous band I was in. Big Django diehard. He had a collection of mutes which made it more than manageable to play in a small rehearsal space etc. He rarely played without them but I loved the various flavors they'd bring.
Ohh there is also the fact that many Jazz players look down on Gypsy Jazz. So if you can play trumpet like Louis you either don't like gypsy Jazz or you are in a trad band lol.
*Phone auto correct changed Gypsy Jazz to ghost Jazz. Kinda cool.

Love those smiles right at the start. What a beautiful setting to play and hear this fantastic set from one of the best lineups in the genre.
Hey thanks Buco !!!
It works well. I wonder why we don't hear it (trumpet in GJ band) more often

I agree, trumpet is good. But it is a very loud instrument.
