Hello everyone,

These recordings are from a while ago but I only got around to finishing them up and uploading them now, haha. They are from a reunion concert of the group Romani; originally a quartet of my Grandfather Koen De Cauter and his son Dajo and Vivi Limberger and his son Tcha. But since both my Grandfather and Vivi aren't in their prime anymore, my Dad Waso and I were asked to join in for additional guitar support which was a great honour for me!

The recordings are a bit chaotic, the music is sometimes a bit messy since we didn't rehearse at all and we all played from memory (I had to use my memories of the cd haha), Tcha is out of frame sometimes, my Dad is almost fully out of frame (except for some glances of his reflection in the mirror above the piano) but the music remains very beautiful and didn't lose it's unique character and atmosphere. There's some beautiful and funny interactions between the original Romani gang.

I really love this repertoire of traditional songs and love Vivi's singing and was delighted to join this wonderful group! I think fans of Tcha and my Grandfather and the original Romani cd will definitely enjoy this!

Here's a list of the songs:

    • Berendans
    • Me hum Mato
    • Ou Letschto Kurko
    • Traditional Romani Melody (I don't know the name of it, sadly enough)
    • Djine Tu Nog?
    • Les Deux Guitares
    • Variations on Berendans
    • Ou Devel

When Tcha announces 'Me hum Mato' Vivi says "Nu al" which means 'already' in Flemish to which Grandfather responds with "Papse" which means 'again' in Romanes. To put that into context; 'Me hum Mato' means 'I am drunk' in Romanes ;)

In the variations on Berendans my Grandfather shouts "Brool-Morsch", a literal Romanes translation of 'Pear-Man', referencing Dree Peremans; a Flemish producer and Folk expert who worked with my Grandfather back in the day. It takes Tcha a couple of seconds to understand the reference while he's still playing and after that he shouts: "Aspartaam, Aspartaam"; an artifical sweetener. Why? Because why not!

What a joy it must have been to sit in on this session. This remains one of my favorite CDs that I can listen to at any time. I've always loved that part on Letschto Kurko at ~13:25 when everyone joins in on the singing.

And if I'm speaking of desert island discs, that De Piotto's album is also coming with. So it was great to see this group get together and enjoy playing music. Thanks again for sharing!

It really was! It's an amazing CD indeed, I listened to it a lot when I just started playing music.

Yes, I really like De Piotto's and it's a great CD! I'm hoping to get the chance to maybe play with them someday!

I'm happy to hear that you enjoyed the video!
