It's really completely unnecessary, either 9 or 10. Once I borrowed a guitar on the spot with the 9th dot and it threw me off with playing melodies. I taped it over and stopped making mistakes. If I'm playing my electric, I switch just fine. Because I play a different repertoire I think. Unless I start playing GJ on my Strat, like Bireli, then I'll be in trouble.
Regarding the guitar Baro is playing, that guitar is a maple body 12 fret d-hole. There are photographs of guitars like this being built at Selmer, but I have never seen one, not even a modern photograph of a maple d-hole. I don't know anyone who's ever seen one. There isn't one in the Selmer book. I can think of various reasons for this. Maybe the factory did not like the sound and just gave Baro that one to use for the photo session, and destroyed all the maple guitars later on. That makes the most sense to me. Or maybe someone else here has seen such a guitar? But in my 30 years of involvement, I've never seen nor heard of one. Anyone?

Yeah, but history records Baro was a bit of a rebel anyway.....maybe pearloid dots were available on the black market, he had 'connections'.

I'll bet they were experimenting early on. 8th fret is fucked up.

Vincent's guitar: fake logo on the left, original logo on the right.
