This is incredible—I’ve never seen him play like this before. This version of "Nuages" uses a very similar technique.
I gypsy pick my Taylor. No problem at all. On a electric archtop I play all the string changes down but I have to mute the adjacent strings also which results in a slightly different hand position. On a electric I like to feel the strings with the side of my thumb, on a acoustic my hand is rotated outwards, away from the strings. For electric, think Joe Pass, when he was using a pick he played all the string changes down.
