Hey everybody,
I'm an artist officially! I knew it would happen someday!
I released one of my original songs, it's on the streaming services and Bandcamp.
This song started a while ago, around 2018. I was in the car, possibly driving to practice, stuck in a bad traffic. I decided to challenge myself and see if I can come up with a melody in my head. It was always super impressive for me to hear when a musician would say they just had a melody pop up in their head. It was like magic to me. At this time, I was writing a lot more of my own stuff so I figured maybe I could do it.
I did come up with the beginning melody line, which comes right after the intro. But then what followed was months of work completing the rest. I never laboured over any song for this long. Sometimes, something would come out as I'm playing and minutes later I'd have a complete song that I'm satisfied with. With this song it was like building a house by yourself. Coming up with different sections, then I wanted to incorporate a key change but I wanted melody to have a flow and connect so that the key change isn't even heard. I'd keep coming back to it and tweak. I remember when the ending chord change came to me, around 3'05" mark, I was so excited, I loved it.
For various reasons it took me until now to record it. I came close last year but I couldn't settle on the tempo. Also the form was longer than this version, kinda too long. Back then I couldn't hear it any other way. When came back to it recently, very quickly I said, oh I can drop these parts here, they repeat later anyway. I actually fixed the last few bars of lead guitar guitar just two days ago because it had a crackle, something digital but sounded like a vinyl crackle. Right after I did that, I went to DistroKid (thanks for the recommendation @adrian ), signed up and uploaded it.
Art is courtesy of Ela, the song title is her namesake.
Last but not least, thank you to @billyshakes @BillDaCostaWilliams @Willie @Scoredog for feedback and input, this song is better for it.

Awesome! Great recording. I know exactly what you mean about producing the song out of nowhere. It takes a lot of confidence in the process and yourself to allow it to happen, much less getting down on paper (so to speak). Excellent job bring it all full circle and congrats on finally becoming an arteeest.
Unfortunately, now you’ll have to forfeit ALL your money and start sleeping on the couch. See you at the dive bar later!
Nice, well done.
Nice Buco! I really dig that intro!
I'd like to ask something I ask others from time & time -- how/when did you know it was finished as a composition? I've written some music but cannot for the life of me say.... "OK ENOUGH! ITS DONE!" & I think it suffers from wanting to pick & prune at so much. Everlasting Awe however is a gem.
Excellent!!!!
@TheGarethJones dive bars don't exist here anymore. If I see $6 a pint beer, I'm not even asking what it is, just get me some. Finally joined the circle of starving arteests though. Yeah , I suppose it does take a leap of faith, doesn't it? Thanks man!
@djazzy compositionally, if I get excited about something I just came up with, I know I'm done. Sometimes it's like finding a solution to the problem, and if I feel good about the solution then I know I'm done. I feel good about all the solutions here but it took months, maybe years for all of it to come together. I was worse when it came to recording though. I scraped many recording sessions. Even this last one, both the rhythm guitar and the solo were "placeholders". Then I heard them an hour or a day later and then I was like, wait a second this sounds fine. Thanks man, it feels great to hear that!
@littlemark @Jangle_Jamie thanks guys!
Very cool Buco it sounds great
Thank you Jason 👍
To my ears it’s hard for an instrumental track to convey a sense of love but this one does.
Oh man, that's just about the nicest compliment I've ever gotten. It's actually making me emotional right now (hold it together man!!). Thank you my friend.
Buco, great stuff!! It's a fairly dreary day in Milwaukee so I really appreciate getting some sunlight from you!
