I don't know, man. I'd feel silly to question the choices of Rocky. To me it's just nice sounding music. It's just tastes I guess, there's no accounting for tastes.
But, I am looking forward to the next one. And I look forward to it swinging hard lol. That's some fast turnaround, damn.
What's really silly is people behind marketing of the album describing Rocky in ways such as
As for Rocky Gresset, his regular collaboration with Thomas Dutronc, on stage and in the studio, gives him a very solid experience
I mean, what...? ... Thomas Dutronc...gives him a solid experience...? Who wrote that? That's just bonkers silly.
Hah, it's just name dropping. Thomas is hugely famous outside of GJ circles, and has celebrity parents. Of course guitarists know he wouldn't hold a candle to Rocky in GJ!
I will remix it for comedic effect:
As for Thomas Dutronc, his regular collaboration with Biréli Lagrène, on stage and in the studio, failed to give him a very solid experience
I knew Thomas is popular but I didn't know he's famous. He's got half a million people tune into his music on Spotify. That's not a small chunk.
Still, Rocky doesn't need his name in the same sentence to tell the casual listener that Rocky is worth listening to. People that are interested in this album will be well aware of him.
Maybe the idea is to pull some of those Dutronc listeners who otherwise aren't aware of Rocky or Jazz manouche as a genre and interest them? As you said, people who know Rocky (or Stochelo or William) aren't really going to care about the marketing or bios. They'll listen to the music because they already like it. But the marketers are always trying to expand an audience and his association with a guy like Dutronc might be considered a good marketing tactic.
And on another note, @wim you have a sharp wit! I hope I'm never the target of it! 😂

Or maybe they all did it together as a joke?
