  He was a truly great player. I had a chance to see him play just before he died back in the 80's and he was superb.
  
  I just remembered I have an old album of his tucked away in my closet. "On his Own" is the title.

  I also love thumbs playing;thanks for the great clip--he was an awesome player who unfortunately
  never really captured his genius on record--though his album "All Thumbs" where he plays lap classical gtr contains some great playing---does anyone have any live recordings?...and do i remember correctly that thumbs met Django while on armed service in europe ?

  Stu: I heard about him through a friend from the UK (Mr Brazier) who came here for a brief couple of years -- he had a mission (one of several) to seek out various players of legendary skill, including Thumbs.
