My search for ultimate pick stopped with bluechip, they're so awesome.

I tried out one (by the kind gesture of one of our own, on this board...anonymous, in case it embarrasses him 8 - but very much appreciated). At the time, I didn't get much from it, felt much like other rigid picks I've tried. It would be nice to try it again in a year or so, when I've got more lead work under my fingers.

I have to admit, though...a wegen is costly enough, one does wonder when so many accomplish so much with....any pick. That said, I'm intrigued by the SR60, for dedicated rhythm work. If Fapy keeps his in his wallet, in cloth (do I recall correctly), and Nous'che prizes his apparently very costly pick with a pretty fierce affection...well, you know.

  • Well, first off I have to say I am not in any way connected with Blue Chip. I have met the owner and talked with him some on the phone as we share a non music interest. Their real business is a machine shop. They do lots of car stuff which is what gets Matthew and I gossiping. The picks pave to be machined and the sheet material they are made of is ridiculously expensive.

I confess I have a Blue Chip that has travelled a bit...its on its way to another member to try out as I write.... If he likes it well he may try the fat round one. I just happen to think they make a great product and they are really nice people.

I'm definitely curious again, Jay. That SR60 has a beautiful shape...much like the Golden Gate mandos, but in this rigid material. Thinking....

Paul, if you were closer I'd let you try mine for a few days...
I do have a TP601R that I don't use. I could send you that one if you'd like to try it for some time.
I like the round tip on it, more pointy tips I don't care for personally, but round tip is what prompted me to give them a call and ask "which one of your picks has that quality but even more of it?", SR60 was the answer.

I wasn't an instant convert, first few days I wondered if this is gonna be one of many picks that grace the darkness of my drawer. Then I submitted myself to a blind test, had a friend play various picks while I listened and bluechip was my number 1 choice. So I kept on using it and eventually I started having AHA moments where I was noticing sound quality coming from my guitar that I haven't had before or I did but much less of it and the pick (SR60) seemed to amplify a lot of what I liked about my guitar and bring new stuff out of it.

Anyway if you'd like to try TP601R let me know either here or maybe do the private message so we're not clogging up the board, or if you come to Chicago you can have SR60 for a couple of days as well.

I tried one at Django in June last week and was pleasantly surprised. Not sure I'd make the investment personally, but it's definitely a nice pick!

Buco, thanks man, be nice to hook up. We are actually coming to Chi-Town Tuesday 7/9, leaving 7/10, and hoping to catch Alfonso's solo show T night (unfortunately have to miss a W night Green Mill pilgrimage, have my own weekly Wednesday thing here in Madison). Interested in seeing Alfonso at the library, at all?

@Adrian: Thanks for the info, Adrian. Was it the SR60 you happened to try?
