Site uptime

Hi there

Forgive me if this is the wrong category, I couldn't really find the right one. I can't help noticing the increasing amounts of downtime on the site, it seems to be a daily occurrence.

As a rule I get online here in Central Europe about 2pm our time at the moment (any earlier and you're redirected to a holding page). Of course, I can just about hold on for my daily fix till the evening, but I'd bet our friends in APAC (and there are a few) are pretty much locked out during their working days.

Michael, do you administer your server or is someone else at it? They might want to run top or ps aux in the evening, or at midnight, shortly after a scheduled task starts running. My guess is you've got a cron task in there that keeps failing, and keeps replicating itself in the vain hope of getting the job done, until at length the server falls over. Tasks for checking valid link URLs, among others are notorious for this - and in the default settings for many standard BB software packages are made to run far too aggressively.

Cheers, s68

I've noticed the same thing, around 11.30 Central European Time. But often everything is fine again when I get back 20–30 minutes later.

I'm finding the same thing in the mid-evenings here in NZ. Which has been frustrating, because that's when I keep sitting down with my guitar and trying to open that Eddie Lang thread!

Exactly the same pattern today. At 11.37 it looked like this

Yes, there's a big cron job that runs late at night. It usually only disrupts the site for about 10 min. Sorry, we have to do it sometime so we try to keep it off peak hours (at least for this time zone.)
