I got this guitar directly from Hanson Yao at the Alta Mira booth at NAMM in January of 2011. This is the standard Selmer copy model 01 except that the “K” means Koa for the back and sides. A luthier friend later told me the back and side wood wasn’t true Koa but a similar “relative” or cousin if you will that has some of the visual characteristics. Whether that is thru or not, I like the way it looks and sounds. I played this guitar on tons of rhythm guitar gigs with the John Jorgenson Quintet in 2011 and 2012 so this guitar is VERY broken in and sounds wonderful. This has one of the most comfortable neck profiles of any guitar I’ve owned. The neck is like a medium U shape however it’s asymmetrical, which I find interesting. I never noticed it until a luthier friend pointed that out to me. The shoulder on the treble string side is a bit shallower. Other than put Saga “deluxe” tuners on this guitar, no modifications have been made other than carving out the bridge a bit more underneath to lighten it up. A fantastic working man’s guitar. It’s served me well all over the US, Europe and China.
