Question:
Anyone out there have experience with using these velcro mic mounts?

Quesion 2:
Is that what Hono has attached to his guitar in this video?

These mounts are affordable and easy to use but for some reason they don't seem to be very common place. But if it's good enough for Hono...

I'd like to know how these sound too...I guess the way to try it out is get a strip of velcro and wedge the mic in between. If it sounded as good (and getting rid of the proximity effect would go a long way), if could be better - and would seem to get in the way less - than the sound hole clip...

I use one of these, and find it much better than using the clip on the sound hole for exactly the reasons you suspect. No boomyness at all. A real good mix of strings & soundboard sounds. It can get in the way if you don't have the whole floating hand, bent wrist thing going on, but if you do, it doesn't get in the way.

Can't recommend this positioning highly enough.

Yes, that is what Hono is using in these clips. I've tried this mount and found it to work well in situations where mikes work well, i.e., not a lot of noise to compete with. The sound is very natural, not boomy (as often happens with mounts too near the soundhole), and not as prone to feedback.

I've also been experimenting with Gonzalo's mounting technique, using the AT8444:

and clipping it INSIDE the soundhole. This is pretty tricky with an oval hole but quite easy with a D hole. So far, it seems to be the best option that I have tried. You can see it in this clip, minus the microphone:

Gonzalo seems to leave the clip in place all the time and fasten the mike in when needed.

Well, I've just ordered one. I'll report back when it turns up.
I had tried mounting the mic inside the body before, but it was really fiddly, and as I like to put my guitar back in its case between sets, it does get to be a pain trying to feed the mic under the strings time and time again. I also didn't notice a huge sound benefit from a top mounted setup.

I'm looking forward to getting the cable coming out at the different angle too, and not falling down to my feet, where it's easy to get it stepped on or squashed by chair legs, which is no good.

Pretty small issues, I know, but I'm looking forward to them being solved.

    Thanks for the ideas,

    Jon
