I don't know who grabbed it, but what a nice guitar, and what a lucky new owner! To me, it has alot of Busato qualities at a budget price: singing, bell-like tones and lots of volume! I got to play this guitar last summer, and tried to convince the owner to hang on to it. It's in remarkable shape as well. Congrats to the lucky new owner!
I've never been a guitar player, but I've played one on stage.
I am wondering how those compare with the newer models that Castelluccia (his grandson ?) now builds ? I understand from Manoucheries that they still have a very "manly" neck, and a lot of caracter.
Does anyone know more about them ?
Michael: I know you can only carry so many guitars, but did you ever have any opportunities to bring some to Djangobooks ?
All the Selmer or Favino copies seem to get most of the attention while those mid-range busatos-like are usually left out.
I have played quite a few of those 1950s models, and they're all as incredible.
For those who remember this is the one that inspired Bob Holo to built a similar guitar.
I don't know if I should say it, but my friend Craig Bumgarner is finishing his own copy based on a similar D hole Castelluccia... which is as good, probably even better. Craig's guitars can compete with no shame with the bests, right out of the box. This one is going to be interesting.

For those who missed the D hole, here's another chance to get a pretty rare one:
