Books on theory?

Hi,

I've been playing guitar for 10 years and have only recently gotten into Gypsy Jazz. I've been practicing technique quite a bit and learning a few licks and chords, but I'm really looking to read and learn about the core fundamentals (big words) of the style. Also I really want to improve my understanding of the guitar so that I won't feel so lost when trying to improvise.

Can you recommend any good books? I've done a search and have looked online for ages but it's off putting as there are literally milllions out there.

  • A book that analyzes Gypsy Jazz or jazz in general?

I really like Mark Levine's Jazz Theory Book. I find it to be a must have. Also, I'm biased, but I'm learning quite a bit from reading the notes from Gonzalo's "How I Learned" series. You can read between the lines and get alot from there.
