best resell value?

another topic, seems like i´m in the mood for posting... :)

what do you guys (specially Michael) think would be a safe bet for a mid-price guitar regarding resell value (meaning not loosing too much money reselling a well cared for, preserved guitar kept in humidity controlled conditions after 4/5 years)? the dupont md´s seem like the best bet... do people pay attention to outer laminate? the difference between a EIRW and a mahogany veneer seems to bequite steep...

thanks,
miguel.

No matter what, you lose a lot.
Dupont is probably best because of his consistency. If your buying a new or used MD or Nomade, you and the buyer-seller know pretty well what your getting in sound, finish, materials, build quality, and what the relative price new-used is etc...
Maybe the Saga stuff gets that same business, I don't know.

As Jeff said Duponts are by far the best new guitars for long term resale value. In fact, if you keep them long enough inflation and the exchange rate can actually result in a profit. Many people who bought MD50s 10 years ago were able to sell them for more than they bought them for. As Jeff said, they are very consistent and he makes standard models that everyone knows. Most other luthiers tend to make custom stuff which is very appealing to the first buyer but not so much for the next one.
