That must be a very good price I think. And being English I could get a good deal with the exchange rate at the moment. Shame I don't have the dough. Does anyone know if Bob plans to expand his operation a little bit? I understand that he is meticulous in his work, and that he doesn't make "dud" guitars, but surely if he could increase his rate of production he'd corner a bit of the market in my opinion. So much of this community is based on word of mouth and Bob's got a fantastic reputation by all accounts, and it must help having many of the new generation of players playing his guitars. Therefore I think it must be an ambition of Bob's to get a few more of his guitars in the hands of other players. Just a thought.
If a builder is meticulous, mechanically and in the specifics of this craft, the cost of "ramping up production" is not so much the dollars perhaps, but the idea that someone without your hard won techniques will be handling your jigs, your shop, and guitars, but simply can't apply your ideas because they aren't you.
So the cost may be huge even excluding the $.
Not saying it can't be done cause Selmer did it and even improved the product some, but you gotta be able to let go. Maccaferri didn't just let go, he quit.
