AT Gooseneck - DIJ - anyone know?

PassacagliaPassacaglia Madison, WI✭✭✭✭
Hey all - I know this may only apply to folks who saw it at DIJ, but perhaps it's a common thing and others may be able to give their experience. AT DIJ, Sebastian Boyer and Paulus Schaffer both had an AT gooseneck mounted. Anyone know the exact setup - mic model, pre-amp, etc.?

Oh, OK, thanks, Ben. A friend from Chicago (that was a surprise - hadn't seen him since 2008, when I briefly studied with Alfonso!) called it out as an AT, but the mic and setup you show looks right.

Look forward to seeing you again - am planning for a yearly return!

I asked Michael Horowitz about this in Northampton and can confirm that Benny is right.
I've never been a guitar player, but I've played one on stage.

The DPA's are the industry standard for lavalier instruments mics. The frequency response is much better than the Audio Technicas and the mounting system is much more flexible. It's really easy to get the mic in the sweet spot, avoiding both the unwanted proximity effect/bass boost and feedback. They are quite a bit more expensive, but I think anyone who heard Antoine's guitar at the show will agree it does a great job of accurately reproducing the sound of an acoustic instrument. It probably didn't hurt that he was playing a Bob Holo guitar or Michael Bauer's Maccaferri #103!
