What a great story Eddy!!
A few years ago, a friend gave me a video that you made at DFNW (circa 2003, I think) and Patrick was one of the featured performers.
My favorite part (aside from his wonderful playing) is when you interviewed him and when asked how he liked the Pacific Northwest, he responded "I like it, it's very nice.....no coconuts,...very strange"
Love it!!!!
RIP Patrick!!!!
Eddy, thank you for such a moving story. I didn't know Patrick or his music but knew of his import, and of his struggle with his health. You've given a wonderful gift, this testament. Peace to his family and friends, and thank you again, Eddy.
Great story Archtop! I remember him from earlier Djangofests- he was such a fun loving joyful person. Although there was the language barrier, that never seemed to be a complete damper in communication. He usually got his ideas across. Yes, I need to get my Alma Sinti cds out tonight and play all of them. Dwight
Thanks fellas for letting me share my Patrick Saussois stories with you.
Here's a picture from our visit at his home. Left to right is Pascal, Patrick and me. Behind us is a bunch of Patrick's lefty guitars and the paintings on the wall are by Lodie. Interestingly enough, we are all left-handed but play guitar totally differently: Pascal plays traditional righty style; Patrick played a lefty guitar strung right-handed--basically he played the guitar upside down; and I play the guitar restrung left-handed. Picture was shot June 19, 2000. (Thanks Pascal for the picture!) AE
