Guitar Suggestions?

Ok, so I never did get a Gypsy Jazz Guitar. I will probably be starting again to learn this genre. I play guitar, but not this style, so I'm not a total beginner to the instrument.

My dilemma is what guitar is specifically recommended in the $400 - $600 range? There's a whole bunch on eBay I think, but I really am clueless as to how to buy a quality instrument in this genre in my price range.

If I'm buying a typical guitar, I know that generally if I buy a Fender, Gibson, Guild, or Martin, I'm probably getting a good guitar.

But are there similar "name brands" that I can choose from in this price range that would be a good choice? Are any saga gitanes for example generally good choices?

Any other recommendations? I don't mind buying used or new, but please keep in mind my price range.

Thank you all!

In your price range there are two kinds of Saga (Gitane and Cigano).
They play and sound similar - pretty good.
The Gitanes look quite traditional (nice) but cost more. The Ciganos may sound a tiny bit better (less finish but same design) and cost less.
The other new guitars in your price range are to be avoided in my opinion.

I'm not techie, but there's a thousand? posts here on this topic if you search.

If you can go up to $700, you might consider the Gitane DG 250M. If you can go up to $800, Michael is selling a slightly damaged Alta Mira M01 for $795.

If not, definitely get a cigano Gj10. Michael sells them for $330. Definitely the way to go. Michael is good people and will really take care of you; if you go through Ebay, you never know (and I doubt you will find a significantly better price).

    cheers and good luck.

I recomend a Cigano GJ 15. At that price you won´t find a guitar that has better sound. or even close for that matter. It was my first Gj jazz guitar and will never sell it. Other guitars come and go, but that one stays.

Look for the guy that looks a bit like Jack Black, he is using a Cigano GJ 15. :D

  • Personally, if I wanted a GJ guitar I would call or email Michael, give him your budget and your timeframe and see what he has or can come up with. Even if you paid 5% more than on fleabay, which is not a certaintly, you would certainly get a better guitar for your money.

I dont know of anyone who knows more about the guitars in this genre and Michael is a really straight shooter.
