The Saga photograph has definitely been manipulated. In addition to the flowers being removed, the colours were modified and, I think, the clarity improved in certain areas. Michel Mercier who is working with me on the photo book and was responsible for the superb set of photos in the Saga CD, confirms the originals are colour. There were far more taken at the time in B&W to advertise Stimer and these are frequently seen. Here is a small section of the only other colour photo of Django we know about. You will have to get the book to see a good quality copy of the whole thing. :roll:

That last one is definitely colorized...the original is part of a series of photos by William Gottlieb during Django's trip tyo the US to play with Duke Ellington:

I'm new and happy to found this great forum.

I decided to post a message cause I see one picture of Django that i'm colorized.
This one is one of my realisation and of course it's not a true one.
I like to do this but sometimes for purist it's not good, I understand this.

Je suis nouveau et heureux d'avoir trouver ce super forum.
J'ai decider de poster un message suite à la photo de Django que j'ai moi meme coloriser.
C'est une de mes realisations et ce n'est pas une vrai.
Pour moi c'est juste un passe temps mais je comprends que certains puristes n'apprecie pas.
J'essayerais d'en envoyer d'autres.

Great shots. I'm curious about the position of Django's right hand in these photos. Is that an actual playing position he used at times or is it strictly a pose for the cameras?

I think he was just posing....maybe playing some lush sounding chords or sweet leads close to the neck. But when he was playing with a group he picked closer to the bridge.
