Still not sure what the rattle is. If the top is shrinking in (due to low humidity?) it would tend to cause fret buzzing I would think. If it's the insert on the tailpiece you could probably take it off and put a tiny bit of some type of glue in the slot and put it back on. Maybe that thicker type of superglue (not the watery stuff) but be careful not to use to much and make a mess.
I live near the ocean so there is hardly ever much problem with low humidity here so I'm not really knowledgeable about those issues.
If the buzz starts again maybe have someone else lightly touch the tailpiece insert and see if that stops it???
Good luck.
Edit: temperature extremes could cause the adhesive holding the mustache to loosen so maybe it was humidity as well as temperature. I don't think that humidity (or lack of) would affect the adhesive.
If you damp the strings with your left hand and strum do you still get the rattle?
Peter contacted me and I think we solved it - something I never considered but I'm pretty sure it was the problem: the other mustache piece coming lose - the funny thing is right when I got off the phone with him it popped off (Peter is a great guy and wants to pay to have them reglued). It is currently not making the buzz, so as long as it doesn't start up again I'm pretty sure that was it. He also mentioned that the chances of a brace being loose is very very small unless the guitar had endured some serious abuse. I have a similar buzz going on my old Gitane and I'm thinking it is the same problem since it sounds the same and appears to be coming from the same area.
Great news! Yes I should have mentioned that in my previous post about temperature causing the other mustache to pop off. I was wondering if the other one wasn't also loose. Stands to reason.
nice you solved it. problem with buzzes (and rattles and all those noises) is that it doesn´t take much for them to happen (just a very tiny gap goes a long buzz way, so to speak), so sometimes is hard to visualize them, and many times they don´t come from the most obvious places. I have a very annoying rattle on my altamira, but i´m pretty sure it comes from the truss rod being loose inside the slot. my baby daughter had the guitar dropped on the floor (twice!) and the head just broke and popped off, so i had to reglue it. the noise has been with me ever since, it´s now part of that gypsy sound...

You might want to get a cheap hygrometer to make sure that you are not over or under humidifying.
These work pretty well.
