wow... that´s dedication, from Melbourne to Samois... a sort of pilgrimage, no?
i´m afraid i won´t be going, 120 eur and besides Angelo there´s nothing i feel like i HAVE to see right now. sure, it would be a smashing time and i´d get to see Adrien and Wawau and enjoy the camping and all that jazz, maybe next year. or when they get some of the elder Schmitts...
I see Stochelo is playing, but not with his cousins. It seems Stochelo mostly play with other groups now. Is the trio taking a break? I have to see them in concert some day!
Except from him, Angelo, Adrien and Wawau the program seems to shoot for a lot of different genres. Not what I'd pick. I might just go to jam though, as I've never been to any of these camps before.
I can't decide if I'm going to Samois, DIJ or that one in the UK. I have to choose, because I am not exactly a rich man.
Just looked, yep, I don't know anyone but Adrien M., Wawau and Les Doights. Wasn't aware Stochelo is w/o Nous'che and Nonnie alot...hope I'm not too late to see them live, sooner rather than later!
Really hope to go next year, but I've noticed it seems to be changing its bent, as well. Any folks with recent experience going - what's the camping/jamming scene, now?
Yes, I will be there Thursday, Friday and Saturday. I usually jam all over the place and hang out at the AJL booth with Olli. And of course the jams at Samoreau after the festival closes. It's gonna be a great time like it always is!
About the festival in the UK: I really like it. I played there last year with Remi Harris and a short set with Tchavolo and Mozes, played a set with Olli the year before that. It is really nice BUT very small scale compared to Samois (also much cheaper). The level of the jams is also much higher in Samois (everywhere you go you'll find incredible players, really jaw dropping incredible). That last part could also be a consideration: the threshold to jam can be really high in Samois and one can easily get intimidated. Not so much of an issue in the UK.
I recommend both but if you really want the "full" experience, the real deal, it's Samois all the way!
Christiaan, what's your feeling on the direction the Festival seems to be taking? I'm not in the loop, but it does seem to be changing its focus...? Forget where it was, but in the Chemin DVD, Lollo, Fapy, Stochelo (sorry, don't know the other player(s)), playing it out....stuff like this still go on at Samoreau? (Forgive the naïveté...just hope this one with a child's delight in this music hasn't come a boat too late).
Edit: UK friends, I truly am sorry for the Amerocentric (and gallic blooded!) ignorance - but is the UK Fest hosted by LeQuecumBar...the 9-day event I've seen?

Or maybe I'll just wait for 2014. Time will tell.
