Intermediate level guitar

Hey guys, I've been playing my Gitane DG-250M for about 4 years now and am looking to upgrade. Still love the guitar but it's seen better and days and I feel it is time to move on to something new. I would consider myself at an intermediate level of playing and am just wondering what kind of guitars you guys would recommend for that next "level". My budget would be anywhere between 1000-2500$.

Get an Alta Mira m01, put schaller tuners on it and maybe a rosewood bridge. Should come in at less than your max budget and it's a way better guitar than what you're playing.

    cheers,

    Hey Colin,

From most of the threads I've read there seem to be many that Love Duponts. The entry Dupont Nomade model is available here @ Djangobooks for $2100 plus shipping.

There happens to be a 10 year old Nomade on Ebay for $1300 plus $60.00 Shipping.
I don't know anything about it other then it listed yesterday.

:?: It's hard to buy something you haven't touched seen & heard. Personally I've gotten two great Guitars off eBay. They did have an evaluation period to return it though. The above guitar is no returns. I'm kind of gun-shy of those Auctions. But $150.00 shipping to and from if your not happy could get costly.

Be great to walk into Djangobooks meet Michael and see and play whats available there.

Good Luck hope you find a guitar that opens many new musical doors for you.

  • There's that Dupont Nomade on Ebay right now that fits your budget. Additionally, I was talking to Emmet, who plays with John Jorgenson occassionally, and he mentioned that John Jorgensen has been using the Alta Mira guitars on the road. Emmet owns a Holo, but said the Alta Mira guitars were an amazing value and play very well.

Keep your eyes open on the second-hand market: I've bought some great "real" GJ guitars for less than 2500 $. Just be patient!

    Hey Frater,
What is your advice on buying guitar sight unseen. :?:
Seems most eBay stuff doesn't have a retutn policy,
    Where would you suggest looking?

    Thanks pickitjohn

Now, you can never say but I've bought a lot of second-hand guitars on ebay and never had a problem. The rules are quite simple a)check the feedbacks of the seller, b) try to contact him before you bid, and see if he's the communicative type (this will be very important AFTER you've bought the instrument!) c) and most difficult one: become an expert on GJ guitar so you can tell from little details if it is a hoax or not. :D
    P.S.
If it is a (living) luthier instrument, drop a mail to the luthier himself and ask him what he thinks about it (most of the times they will answer you!)

I like my Gallatos for the price.

Michael doesn't carry them but Gypsyguitar.de sells them. Shipped from Germany though so if you are in the states that adds a couple hundred bucks I think.

That dupont looks great! Doesn't ship to Canada though... :? However I am visiting the states in July perhaps I can work something out..

Hmm I've never considered Alta Mira, seem like a decent guitar at a pretty good price. I've checked out he Nomade too before as well. beautiful guitar. I'd have a hard time buying without trying, can't really afford to be taking that risk haha. Actually... I am going to be in Seattle in July, I should pay Michael a visit.
  • best thing you couild do IMO try lots of em :D see what neck shape works best for you.. what tone you like
The Magic really starts to happen when you can play it with your eyes closed
